Bharatiya Mahila Bank was inaugurated in the year 2013 by then Manmohan Singh. The headquarters of the bank is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The bank’s core idea is to empower women. All the staff in the bank are only women. Loans and other services are provided to women of the bank at very fewer interest rates. The initial capital of the bank was around INR 1000 crores. In the year 2017, India’s PM Narendra Modi announced that the bank would be merged with the State Bank of India. With the announcement of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, the number of accounts opened by women rose exponentially.
