Andhra Bank was founded in the year 1923 in Machilipattinam, Andhra Pradesh. The headquarters of the bank is now located in Hyderabad, Telangana. The bank has about 2000+ working branches.

In the year 2011-12, the bank entered the North-Eastern states of Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. In the year 2019, Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman announced that the bank would be merged with Union Bank of India. By March 4, 2020 banks like Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank were merged into Union Bank of India.
